Can I become an Independent Funeral Celebrant?

There are no legal requirements to become a funeral celebrant. However, based on David’s experience, having the following qualities can make you a popular and in-demand celebrant:

  • Smart appearance: dress appropriately, always appearing professional
  • Good interpersonal skills: people buy from people
  • Sensitivity to all individuals, regardless of their culture, faith, belief, or religion
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English with correct grammar, both speaking and writing
  • Computer skills: email, Google, and word processing
  • Clear diction and a pleasant speaking voice; confident speaking to groups
  • Pleased personality
  • Confidence in leadership
  • Ability to prepare and follow a script
  • Own transportation
  • Access to a computer, printer, and phone
